{"id":72643,"date":"2025-08-15T22:34:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T22:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/72643\/"},"modified":"2025-08-15T22:34:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T22:34:07","slug":"two-arrested-in-toronto-human-trafficking-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/72643\/","title":{"rendered":"Two arrested in Toronto human trafficking case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Toronto police say they have arrested two people following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/63782\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/63782\/\">human trafficking investigation<\/a> involving two underage female victims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The investigation began in June, as members of the Human Trafficking Unit began looking into allegations that two girls, aged 14 and 17, were trafficked through a \u201ccombination of deception, coercion, and control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police say the accused created online ads for sexual services, took sexualized pictures of the victims, transported them to hotels to meet clients, and kept the money they earned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On Thursday, officers arrested the suspects who are from both Hamilton and Toronto.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The first suspect, 22-year-old Tyrique Harmer, is charged with trafficking persons under 18, possession of a weapon, publishing and possessing child pornography, and advertising another person\u2019s sexual services, in addition to several other offences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The second suspect, 21-year-old Maria Toth-Taddeo of Toronto, faces the same charges along with several other offences. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police say they believe there may be additional victims and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Toronto police say they have arrested two people following a human trafficking investigation involving two underage female victims.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":72644,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[712,49,48,44],"class_list":{"0":"post-72643","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-canada","8":"tag-apple-news","9":"tag-ca","10":"tag-canada","11":"tag-news"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/72643","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=72643"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/72643\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/72644"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=72643"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=72643"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=72643"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
