In 2019,\u00a0Calgary\u00a0converted all school zones to playground\u00a0zones, meaning\u00a0the slow speeds are in effect every day, whether school is in session or not.<\/p>\n<p>The limit in every <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/playground-zone\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">playground zone<\/a> is\u00a030 km\/h from 7:30 a.m. until 9 p.m.\u00a0daily.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the change seven years ago, police say they constantly receive complaints about problem playground zones.<\/p>\n<p>In Deer Run, dozens have taken to social media to demand more be done to curb speeding along Deer Ridge Drive Southeast.<\/p>\n<p>The post on the Deer Run\/Queensland community page lists excessive speeding and passing in the busy playground zone as just some of the concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Deanna Panting lives within that playground zone.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/national.jpg\" alt=\"Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won't miss a trending story.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won&#8217;t miss a trending story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s infuriating,\u201d Panting said. \u201cI\u2019ll be standing out here and I\u2019ll see people go by at 60 km\/h or sometimes more than that. Oftentimes people drop their own kids at school and then speed out of here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-blockquote__content l-article__blockquoteContent\">\u201cLast week, a little girl was nearly hit in the crosswalk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many in the community are calling for more to be put into calming measures like speed humps, overhead lights at the crosswalk and flashing signs to warn drivers of their speed.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0city councillor\u00a0for Ward 14, which includes the communities of Deer Run and\u00a0Queensland, says\u00a0the city can put all the money in the world into traffic calming,\u00a0but it\u2019s\u00a0only one part of the solution.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Traffic<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an enforcement issue. If you don\u2019t fear enforcement, there\u2019s no reason not to speed, so this is something we need to work with our police service on,\u201d said Landon Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, we can do all the speed mitigation we want, but it\u2019s not going to change driver behaviour without enforcement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Staff Sgt.
