For the second straight night, the Washington Nationals<\/a> offense did just enough on the road as the team’s eight hits led to an 6-3 win over the San Francisco Giants<\/a> to clinch the series win.<\/p>\n

James Wood<\/a> anchored the way after accounting for three of the team’s eight hits, adding an RBI to his 3-for-5 day, while Jacob Young<\/a> registered a pair of runs after going 2-for-4. While the duo accounted for nearly half other the team’s hits, Nasim Nunez<\/a> also ended his day with three strikeouts on an 0-for-4 night.<\/p>\n

Andrew Alvarez opened on Tuesday after he allowed a pair of earned runs and five hits across four innings, while Brad Lord<\/a> was credited for the win after allowing three hits over 2.2 innings.<\/p>\n

The Nationals would grab the lead early after pulling off a carbon copy of the first two games of the road trip against the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> as James Wood opened the game with a leadoff single before Luis Garcia Jr. blasted a 382 foot home run over the right field wall, giving Washington an early 2-0 lead. Washington threatened to add to it in the next inning after Nunez’s lone hit was a leadoff double in the second before three straight strikeouts ended the inning.<\/p>\n

Three innings later, another James Wood single would lead to an RBI after bringing home Young from third and pushing Washington’s early lead to 3-0. Yet the Giants would cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning after a pitching change. Alvarez allowed his first two batters to reach base before Brad Lord stepped on the mound, eventually giving up a two run RBI double. A subsequent walk would load the bases, but Alvarez got out of the jam thanks to a pop out then grounder ended the frame.<\/p>\n

Washington’s final surge came in the third inning after adding two more runs, first on a wild pitch before Daylen Lile<\/a> drew a bases loaded walk to push the lead back to 5-2. Lile then belted a triple in the ninth inning for his lone hit of the game, driving in CJ Abrams<\/a> for the final insurance run to stamp the 6-3 win.<\/p>\n

The Nationals will have a chance to secure the series sweep when the two teams meet on Wednesday with first pitch set for 3:45 PM. The win also secured the 23rd road win of the season, tied with the Atlanta Braves<\/a> for the most across the MLB.<\/p>\n
