This is the stuff of storybooks, of mythology, of dreams.

This is also Braden Montgomery’s MLB debut, a dream come true for the Chicago White Sox phenom.

It’s a script you wouldn’t write, because it was simply too over the top.

But there Montgomery was, at the plate, down a run, a man on, bottom of the 10th inning. He didn’t just tie the game. He won it with one swing.

A walk-off home run to win your MLB debut? Aside from World Series heroics, it’ll be hard for Montgomery to ever top that. According to MLB, it was just the fifth time a player has ended his debut with a walk-off bomb.

His mother had quite the view, too:

Montgomery is supposed to be a star. He was a first-round pick, a fast-rising prospect, a guy with all the tools in the world.

Baseball doesn’t always work in straight lines, though. There are hardships, struggles, adversity.

To make it to a long and successful MLB career takes immense hard work and sacrifice, and a little bit of luck.

But on Tuesday night, the story wasn’t whether Montgomery would become a Hall of Famer or win a World Series.

The story was of a 23-year old, with his family watching, delivering a moment that he probably played out in his backyard or on a sandlot or yes, in a dream, hundreds of times.

Down a run, chance to win the game with one swing.

And there Braden Montgomery was, in the major leagues, doing just that.

It’s a trip around the bases he’ll never forget.
