\n\t\u201cToy Story 5\u201d star Tim Allen<\/a> says a \u201cHome Improvement<\/a>\u201d reboot is not likely at the moment due to \u201cpersonality problems\u201d with the actors who played his on-screen sons on the classic ABC sitcom.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey keep talking about how it could move forward, but they get stuck [because] there are some personality problems right now with the boys,\u201d Allen told US Weekly<\/a> in an interview published Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHome Improvement,\u201d which ran for eight seasons from 1991 to 1999, starred Allen as Tim \u201cThe Tool Man\u201d Taylor. The show followed Tim\u2019s career as a home improvement TV personality and his home life with wife Jill (Patricia Richardson) and their three sons: Brad (Zachery Ty Bryan), Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) and Mark (Taran Noah Smith).<\/p>\n

\n\tBryan, who was 9 years old when \u201cHome Improvement\u201d started and 17 when it was concluded, has been arrested multiple times, the most recent being a second-degree domestic violence charge in 2025<\/a>. In February 2021, he was charged with felony assault, third-degree robbery and assault in Oregon. He had been arrested for allegedly strangling his then-girlfriend, Johnny Faye Cartwright, in 2020.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to Bryan\u2019s multiple arrests, another complication surrounding a potential reboot is the fact that Jonathan Taylor Thomas is no longer \u201cinterested in acting,\u201d according to a 2024 podcast interview with Richardson. Thomas has not appeared on screen since a guest role on Allen\u2019s sitcom \u201cLast Man Standing\u201d in 2015, and Smith (who played the youngest son) hasn\u2019t had an acting credit since a voice part on \u201cBatman Beyond\u201d in 1999.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey\u2019ve got their own issues,\u201d Allen told US Weekly. \u201cI always thought it would be cool if it was a story about them.
