\n\t\u201c24 Jump Street\u201d is in the works, and stars Jonah Hill<\/a>, Channing Tatum<\/a> and Ice Cube<\/a> are in talks to return for the third installment in the R-rated crime comedy franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\tRodney Rothman (\u201cSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse\u201d) will direct the film and wrote the script with Hill and Meghan Malloy. Also returning are producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller \u2014 who helmed the first two films, 2012\u2019s \u201c21 Jump Street\u201d and 2014\u2019s \u201c22 Jump Street\u201d \u2014 and Neal H. Moritz. Tatum and Reid Carolin are producing for Free Association, as are Hill and Matt Dines under their Strong Baby banner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c21 Jump Street\u201d starred Hill and Tatum as Schmidt and Jenko, a couple of underachieving cops who go undercover at a local high school to take down a drug ring. The film, which marked Lord and Miller\u2019s live-action directorial debut, grossed more than $200 million worldwide. Ice Cube plays their superior, Captain Dickson. The sequel, which saw the Hill and Tatum repeat their undercover schtick in college, topped that total with a $331 million box office haul. <\/p>\n

\n\tA third installment of the successful \u201cJump Street\u201d film franchise has been in development at Sony for more than a decade. Tatum once described the script<\/a> for the since-scrapped \u201c23 Jump Street\u201d as \u201cthe best script that I\u2019ve ever read for a third movie.\u201d (That film was designed as a crossover with Sony\u2019s blockbuster \u201cMen in Black\u201d franchise.)<\/p>\n

\n\tWhy skip ahead to \u201c24 Jump Street\u201d?<\/p>\n

\n\tFor starters, Sony\u2019s \u201cJump Street\u201d movies are already a self-aware reboot of the 1980s television series starring Johnny Depp. Plus, the coda to \u201c22 Jump Street\u201d sees Schmidt and Jenko take on a series of other undercover missions that could serve as a potential \u201c23 Jump Street.\u201d The duo infiltrate a medical school, culinary school, firefighter school, dance school and seminary, then go to space and eventually become a video game and an animated series. Thus, Sony titling the forthcoming film \u201c24 Jump Street\u201d continues the running gag.<\/p>\n
