\n\tGreen Day<\/a> fans are likely to feel that they\u2019ve been welcomed to paradise with the release of the trailer<\/a> for Nimrods<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tInaugural Entertainment is set to release writer-director Lee Kirk\u2019s\u00a0Nimrods\u00a0theatrically on Aug. 14.\u00a0Mason Thames<\/a>,\u00a0Mckenna Grace<\/a>,\u00a0Jenna Fischer<\/a>, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee and\u00a0Fred Armisen<\/a>\u00a0star in the comedy movie that hails from Live Nation Studios and was previously\u00a0known as\u00a0New Years Rev<\/a>\u00a0when it premiered at the 2025\u00a0Toronto International Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tNimrods\u00a0is a coming-of-age film centering on three high school friends who set out on a wild road trip under the mistaken assumption that their fledgling band has been booked to open for Green Day on New Year\u2019s Eve. The story is based on Green Day\u2019s real-life adventures while living in a van before the success of\u00a0Dookie, their 1994 Grammy-winning major label debut album that has since been certified as double-diamond.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTr\u00e9 Cool called,\u201d Thames says in the trailer about the Green Day drummer. \u201cHe invited us to L.A. to open for them on New Year\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKylr Coffman, Ryan Foust, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo round out the cast. Kirk, who previously directed Green Day frontman\u00a0Billie Joe Armstrong<\/a>\u00a0in Universal\u2019s 2016 release\u00a0Ordinary World, helmed\u00a0Nimrods\u00a0from his own script that he developed with the band. The title references\u00a0Nimrod, Green Day\u2019s 1997 album that featured such singles as \u201cGood Riddance (Time of Your Life)\u201d and went double-platinum.<\/p>\n

\n\tServing as producers for\u00a0Nimrods\u00a0are Green Day members Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tr\u00e9 Cool, alongside Tim Perell for Process. Executive producers include Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Studios, in addition to Jonathan Daniel.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring an\u00a0interview with\u00a0THR<\/a>\u00a0timed to the movie\u2019s TIFF premiere, Armstrong praised his own chemistry with Kirk on their 2016 film and also gave credit to Thames for doing a \u201cheartfelt job\u201d with the new project.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to do a Green Day film,\u201d Armstrong said. \u201cGod, ever since the beginning, just all my heroes have always done films, whether it was\u00a0Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll High School\u00a0by the Ramones or [the Beatles\u2019]\u00a0A Hard Day\u2019s Night, the Who\u2019s\u00a0Quadrophenia.
