The PGA Tour rookie, who earned his card on the American circuit via last year\u2019s Race to Dubai Rankings, has found consistency an issue this season. A T4 at the Valspar Championship, T16 at the Genesis Invitational, and a T21 at the Texas Open aside, it\u2019s been a string of missed cuts and last-place finishes for Penge.<\/p>\n

After another failure to make the weekend at the PGA Championship, the Englishman decided to tackle his ongoing health issues which started with a viral infection at the DP World Tour Championship in November. As a result, he decided to take an extended break<\/a> from the game to get back to full fitness.<\/p>\n

Penge has now confirmed that break will see him miss the trip to Shinnecock Hills.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, myself and my team have decided that I am going to have to WD from the US Open which I\u2019m gutted about,\u201d the World No. 47 wrote on his social media channels. \u201cMy health is the number one priority for now, and until I get to the bottom of the issues I wont be competing. The plan is to return fully fit.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI have had numerous scans and seen several specialists and we are getting close to resolving the issue that I\u2019ve been struggling with for eight months. <\/p>\n
