Rossbrook House is preparing to welcome the community to its 45th annual Powwow, an event organizers say highlights cultural pride, celebrates children and youth, and strengthens community connections.<\/p>\n
The annual gathering comes after Rossbrook House marked its 50th anniversary, reflecting on decades of providing a safe and welcoming space for young people and families.<\/p>\n
Executive Director Patty Mainville said the Powwow is an important tradition that recognizes participants while helping preserve Indigenous culture and teachings.<\/p>\n
“Community gatherings like our Annual Powwow are an integral piece of celebrating our children and youth,” Mainville said.<\/p>\n

She added that the event also serves as an opportunity to pass knowledge from one generation to the next.<\/p>\n
“It is instrumental in the intergenerational transfer of knowledge by sharing the importance of the pow wow circle, protocols and dance styles. These teachings have been passed down for many years at Rossbrook House,” Mainville said.<\/p>\n
The Powwow will feature drum groups and community dancers, including children from Rossbrook House and its three school programs. Participants have been practising weekly since early April in preparation for the event.<\/p>\n
“Our children and youth have been practicing diligently to prepare for this celebration.
