New data from the City of Edmonton shows a growing trend of collisions resulting in injury and death, including on the most dangerous stretches of Anthony Henday Drive where many of the crashes occur.<\/p>\n

Mike Elliott, a former Edmonton police officer, said he believes massive population growth around the south leg of the Henday and the elimination of photo radar are contributing factors.<\/p>\n “Just prior to leaving EPS (Edmonton Police Service) and coming in here, the removal of the photo radar, I believe, has played a significant factor because we’ve seen an increase in speeding collisions, accidents, injuries and fatalities,” he said. <\/p>\n “And I do believe there’s a direct correlation between that removal and our increase in population.”<\/p>\n Elliott said he will be lobbying for increased safety measures and enforcement.<\/p>\n In 2024, the Alberta government announced it planned to slash photo radar sites by 70 per cent<\/a>.<\/p>\n
