{"id":730101,"date":"2026-06-11T16:27:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T16:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/730101\/"},"modified":"2026-06-11T16:27:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T16:27:09","slug":"concern-about-cyclists-e-bikes-on-the-georgian-trail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/730101\/","title":{"rendered":"Concern About Cyclists &#038; E-Bikes on the Georgian Trail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Editor,<\/p>\n<p>The Georgian Trail is a real asset to our town.<\/p>\n<p>It allows easy access to our town centre, extending as far as Collingwood and promotes year round fitness and tourism.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"MTQ2LDE0LDYw\" href=\"https:\/\/themeafordindependent.ca\/the-3-minute-financial-fix-plan-the-dive-dive-the-plan-part-2-the-power-of-a-proper-will\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Green-Peaks.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pedestrians, dog walkers, joggers, cyclists and e-bikes all use it during spring, summer and fall. People even use it in the winter for cross country skiing.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve lived in Meaford for 13 years and seen a significant increase in speed and carelessness from cyclists and e-bikes.<\/p>\n<p>Many cyclists don\u2019t warn pedestrians of their approach, with few bells, lights or warning calls ever used.<\/p>\n<p>E-bikes can be a greater risk since they are often handled by new riders unaware of increased risk to themselves and others due to their faster speed and extra weight.<\/p>\n<p>Signage cautioning riders is infrequent and sometimes poorly placed (ie. low on a bridge railing) so they aren\u2019t always an effective deterrent.<\/p>\n<p>I recently met two summer enforcement officers on bicycles and really hope they can promote safer summer use of the Georgian Trail.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully this letter will encourage faster users to share the trail responsibly with slower moving pedestrians and dog walkers.<\/p>\n<p>To those who already do, thank you!<\/p>\n<p>Brian Wood, Meaford<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Editor, The Georgian Trail is a real asset to our town.
