Seven boxers have been selected for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games next month.<\/p>\n

The squad includes Alex Mukuka and Wendell Stanley, who both fought at the 2022 Birmingham Games.<\/p>\n

This is the first New Zealand team selected since the start of an investigation into the national body<\/a> and head coach Billy Meehan following complaints from athletes.<\/p>\n

The Sport Integrity Commission has been investigating the organisation and Meehan since May last year over claims of bullying, favouritism and inappropriate behaviour<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meehan, a councillor for Palmerston North’s Te Hirawanui general ward, has remained in his role since the investigation was started. 1News reported in February that some boxers pulled out of contention for the Commonwealth Games due to the lack of a resolution.<\/p>\n

The New Zealand team for Glasgow also includes dual international Jordan Wilson, who played softball for the White Sox.<\/p>\n

Boxing New Zealand president Josh Wharehinga said the Glasgow team highlighted both experience and the next generation progressing through the system.<\/p>\n

“The Commonwealth Games are an important part of our pathway. They give athletes the opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition and take the next step in their development.”<\/p>\n

New Zealand has won 38 medals including seven gold at the Commonwealth Games. The last gold medal was won by David Nyika in 2018.<\/p>\n

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place from 23 July 23 to 2 August.<\/p>\n
