Charges have been laid against a man from Brampton after investigators say he struck an officer with a vehicle while fleeing from police.<\/p>\n
Peel Regional Police say the incident started as an investigation into a vehicle with improper licence plates on May 26 in the area of Peel Centre Drive in Brampton.<\/p>\n
An officer was investigating a grey BMW 525i in a parking lot when the driver \u201cbecame uncooperative\u201d and took off from police on foot, police say.<\/p>\n
The officer gave chase on foot, and that\u2019s when police say the male suspect assaulted the officer<\/a> and resisted arrest during a physical struggle. Police say the officer suffered minor injuries.<\/p>\n Investigators identified the suspect as David Munoz, 41, of Brampton, and said he was prohibited from driving due to past criminal behaviour at the time of the assault.<\/p>\n Police searched a home in Mississauga on Thursday and say Munoz was arrested and charged with assault peace officer, assault with weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to comply with a release order, and breach of probation.<\/p>\n Police say the accused was being held for a bail hearing.<\/p>\n Anyone with information about this incident can contact Peel Regional Police by calling 905-453-3311 ext. 2133.
