On June 1, Flight Attendant Lily Kahner\u00e1hti:io Dailleboust from Kanien\u2019keh\u00e1:ka, Kahnaw\u00e1:ke Mohawk Territory, met Rihanna on a flight from Toronto\u2019s Billy Bishop to Pierre-Elliot Trudeau airport in Montreal.<\/p>\n
Just 45 minutes before boarding the small Jazz 7974, Dailleboust was informed there would be a VIP guest: Rihanna.<\/p>\n

As a fan of Rihanna\u2019s songs \u201cPon de Replay<\/a>\u201d, \u201cPour It Up<\/a>\u201d, and the superstar\u2019s activism trying to improve education, help the less fortunate and being an inspiration, meeting Rihanna was a special moment for Dailleboust.<\/p>\n The gift<\/p>\n \u201cShe came from nothing, too, you know, so it\u2019s like she knows the hustle and she knows what it\u2019s like to grow up rough, so being where she is and making sure that people know that they have gifts and that they can succeed in life is really, you know, something special, especially on her platform,\u201d Dailleboust told Now Toronto.<\/p>\n So, Dailleboust gave Rihanna her personal beadwork keychain\/lanyard from a local Indigenous store, Traditions.<\/p>\n \u201cI do carry gifts with me\u2026I\u2019ll carry earrings, or like, you know, like a lanyard or something significant, because sometimes, I would like to do a cultural exchange with someone, or I might want to gift somebody something. So I didn\u2019t have anything with me, so it\u2019s actually my own personal key chain,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n The interaction<\/p>\n After letting Rihanna settle in, Rihanna started a casual conversation with Dailleboust.<\/p>\n \u201cShe was really casual\u2026 as if you\u2019re talking to your best friend for 10 years,\u201d she told Now Toronto. \u201cSo I introduced myself, I told her who I am and where I\u2019m from, and then I gifted her the keychain.\u201d<\/p>\n Dailleboust explained that Rihanna was excited and moved by meeting an Indigenous Peoples, saying Dailleboust was the first Mohawk person the superstar had ever met.<\/p>\n Then, Dailleboust shared her travels in Barbados in front of the house where Rihanna grew up, completing a full-circle moment.<\/p>\n The viral video<\/p>\n In an Instagram video that went viral, Dailleboust gave Rihanna a keychain\/lanyard.<\/p>\n Rihanna expressed her gratitude towards Dailleboust for the gift.<\/p>\n \u201cThis sweet lady gifted me with something very special that I would never forget and I would never lose\u2026 I\u2019m so honoured,\u201d she said in the video.<\/p>\n Dailleboust also taught the superstar the word \u201cNi\u00e0:wen\u201d from the Kanien\u2019k\u00e9ha (Mohawk) language, meaning \u201cthank you.\u201d<\/p>\n Upon posting, the internet sparkled with Indigenous pride and was touched by this heartfelt moment.<\/p>\n \u201cOur Indigenous love language \u2018Have this,\u2019\u201d one Instagram user commented.<\/p>\n \u201cIndigenous people, always gifting!
