{"id":734715,"date":"2026-06-13T18:49:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-13T18:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/734715\/"},"modified":"2026-06-13T18:49:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-13T18:49:13","slug":"closer-every-day-a-spectacular-30-day-collage-of-the-venus-jupiter-conjunction-photo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/734715\/","title":{"rendered":"Closer every day \u2014 A spectacular 30-day collage of the Venus-Jupiter conjunction (photo)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"elk-c14cf2bf-9dbc-4813-bfa0-dd7e3f2f196c\">Astrophotographer Soumyadeep Mukherjee has shared a spectacular 30-day collage of the western night sky titled &#8220;Closer, Everyday&#8221;, which captures the subtle motion of Jupiter and Venus as they danced through the skies above Kolkata, India, ahead of a dramatic planetary conjunction.<\/p>\n<p>The photos used to create the collage were taken with a Nikon Z6II camera paired with a Sigma 50 mm lens in the hours following sunset from May 11 through to June 9, as <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/7-jupiter-largest-planet-solar-system.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/7-jupiter-largest-planet-solar-system.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/7-jupiter-largest-planet-solar-system.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jupiter<\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/44-venus-second-planet-from-the-sun-brightest-planet-in-solar-system.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/44-venus-second-planet-from-the-sun-brightest-planet-in-solar-system.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/44-venus-second-planet-from-the-sun-brightest-planet-in-solar-system.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venus<\/a> shone close to one another in the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/16816-gemini-constellation.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/16816-gemini-constellation.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/16816-gemini-constellation.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">constellation Gemini<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-c14cf2bf-9dbc-4813-bfa0-dd7e3f2f196c-2\">&#8220;On most of the days, the images were captured during civil twilight in order to showcase the varying colours of the twilight sky along with the planets,&#8221; Mukherjee told Space.com in an email. &#8220;However, on some occasions, due to the presence of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/types-of-clouds\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/types-of-clouds\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/types-of-clouds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">clouds<\/a>, images were captured during nautical and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomical-twilight\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomical-twilight\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomical-twilight\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">astronomical twilight<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-3beb249f-d2a9-4db8-954c-5f9e02653c58\">Mukherjee remained consistent with his technique throughout, varying only the shutter speed to account for changing light conditions, creating a gorgeous glimpse of the planetary procession. &#8220;During capturing the images, the camera was kept level to the horizon, and the planets were placed right at the middle of the frame, as much as possible,&#8221; The slow dance came to a climax on June 9 \u2014 which is depicted in the far right panel \u2014 when skywatchers worldwide were treated to a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/stargazing\/astrophotography\/jupiter-and-venus-looked-spectacular-in-this-weeks-planetary-conjunction-here-are-our-favorite-photos\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/stargazing\/astrophotography\/jupiter-and-venus-looked-spectacular-in-this-weeks-planetary-conjunction-here-are-our-favorite-photos\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/stargazing\/astrophotography\/jupiter-and-venus-looked-spectacular-in-this-weeks-planetary-conjunction-here-are-our-favorite-photos\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dramatic planetary conjunction<\/a> as Jupiter and Venus shone less than 2 degrees away from one another above the western horizon.<\/p>\n<p>            You may like<\/p>\n<p>In reality, the close pass of Jupiter and Venus was nothing more than a misleading matter of perspective. Venus has actually been growing more distant from Jupiter throughout the 30-day photoshoot, during which time it added another 27 million miles (43 million kilometers) between itself and the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/30372-gas-giants.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/30372-gas-giants.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/30372-gas-giants.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gas giant<\/a> as it raced toward <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Earth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Want to create your own incredible photos of the night sky?
