This season, though, it seems like there are more, scarier crashes than usual. Whether that\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclingmagazine.ca\/sections\/news\/canyon-sram-updates-on-kasia-niewiadoma-phinneys-status-after-milan-san-remo-crash\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Debora Silvestri and a group of women falling over a barrier and onto a driveway at Milan-San Remo<\/a>, Tom Pidcock <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclingmagazine.ca\/sections\/news\/tom-pidcock-medical-update-after-tough-crash-in-spain\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">crashing into the woods unseen at 60 kph<\/a> or, well, there\u2019s been a bunch. And it\u2019s only June.<\/p>\n<p>Oscar Onley\u2019s crash during the sixth stage of the Tour Auvergne Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes is a wild one. The Ineos rider crashed during a fast descent towards Friday\u2019s final climb, Crest-Voland, only ten kilometres from the end of the stage. Team manager David Brailsford told\u00a0Wielerflits that, when the team arrived on scene, only Onley\u2019s bike was still visible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt could have ended much worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rider? Literally suspended in the air on the branches of a tree. Beyond the tree a deep ravine plunged out of sight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFortunately, Oscar landed in the crowns of a tree during his fall. As a result, he didn\u2019t end up in a ravine dozens of meters deep,\u201d Brailsford recounted. \u00a0\u201cOur men from the team manager\u2019s car, together with people from the organisation, were able to very carefully hoist him back up from that tree. In that regard, he was incredibly lucky. It could have ended much worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Onley is lucky his crash wasn\u2019t worse, it was still the end of his run at Auvergne. The Ineos rider finished the stage, but withdrew from the race. The team reports his suffered a dislocated shoulder and what Ineos described as \u201cLeg wounds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tarling out earlier in same stage<\/p>\n<p>While Onley\u2019s crash is certainly the most sensational, it wasn\u2019t the only crash or injury for Ineos on Friday. Earlier in the stage, Josh Tarling hit the deck. He also leaves the race with a fractured clavicle.<\/p>\n<p>All of this puts Ineos under pressure, with the Tour de France looming on the horizon<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Crashes in cycling are always scary.
