But Shen Yingchun, a professor at Beihang University, told Beijing Daily: \u201cChina does not need to and cannot copy SpaceX.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said \u201cthe strength of the US model is efficiency\u201d, using the market to drive down costs and forcing companies to innovate.<\/p>\n
Shen argued that China\u2019s commercial space sector was taking a different approach by focusing on building up its satellite networks before trying to cut costs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe strength of the Chinese model is scale \u2013 using the national will to concentrate resources and systematically address issues such as infrastructure, setting standards and risk sharing, where markets typically fail,\u201d Shen said.<\/p>\n
