target=\"_blank\">Vladimir Guerrero Jr.<\/a> and shortstop Andres Gim\u00e9nez are each not starting in Sunday\u2019s series finale against the visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/new-york-yankees\/234\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/new-york-yankees\/234\" target=\"_blank\">New York Yankees<\/a> with injuries. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Guerrero is out of the starting lineup for a second straight game due to back tightness while Gim\u00e9nez is sidelined with left wrist soreness. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Gim\u00e9nez appeared to suffer his injury during Saturday\u2019s loss to the Yankees when he slid into first base while trying to beat Yankees\u2019 pitcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/cam-schlittler\/1397686\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/cam-schlittler\/1397686\" target=\"_blank\">Cam Schlittler<\/a> to the bag.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Guerrero first experienced the tightness in his back on Friday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Guerrero, who\u2019s currently in the first season of a 14-year, $500 million contract, has struggled this season by his standards, owning a .280 batting average with just three home runs and 27 RBIs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He also has a .372 on-base percentage and a career low .737 slugging percentage alongside 30 strikeouts across 246 at-bats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Guerrero Jr. has not hit a home run since May 17 against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/detroit-tigers\/230\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/detroit-tigers\/230\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Tigers<\/a> and has not gone deep at home in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Expectations were high for Guerrero Jr. entering this season after putting together one of the best playoff performances in history last October, hitting .397 with eight homers, 14 walks and 15 RBIs alongside a incredible 1.289 slugging percentage over 18 games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 27-year-old Gim\u00e9nez is hitting .222 with six home runs and 30 RBIs alongside a .620 OPS over 68 games this season. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Toronto enters Sunday\u2019s rubber match against the Yankees with a 34-37 record, 1.5 games behind the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/athletics\/235\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/athletics\/235\" target=\"_blank\">Athletics<\/a> for the third and final Wild Card spot in the American League.
