Boston Red Sox<\/a> fans have grown used to each team adopting a new quirk every season.<\/p>\n

In 2013, the city rallied behind “Fear the Beard” on its way to a World Series title. In 2018, Boston coined the “Win, Dance, Repeat” that nearly every outfield in Major League Baseball still emulates to this day.<\/p>\n

In the 2020s, it was a laundry cart in the dugout that delivered celebratory rides to home run hitters before the team adopted its current Wally head celebration.<\/p>\n

The next viral Red Sox icon might just be Nintendo’s big bad, Bowser from the original “Super Mario Bros.”<\/p>\n

Tim Healey of the Boston Globe reported<\/a> that a figurine of the Nintendo icon is being awarded to the player of the game inside Boston<\/a>‘s locker room.<\/p>\n

“In their search for fun, the Red Sox have a new talisman being passed around the clubhouse: a jumbo-sized figurine of Bowser, the evil, bipedal, fire-breathing turtle-monster\/kidnapper of Super Mario video game fame,” Healey reported.<\/p>\n

Wilyer Abreu<\/a> earned Bowser as a reward for his one home run, two double, 3 RBI game against the Texas Rangers on Friday.<\/p>\n

The massive monster sat in Abreu’s locker until Saturday night, when it migrated into Ceddanne Rafaela<\/a>‘s possession to commemorate his two-RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning that gave the Red Sox the lead late.<\/p>\n

If Bowser delivers the Red Sox their first series sweep in nearly a month, he will forever have a fan in me.<\/p>\n
