Winnipeg police are searching for a suspect after a child was allegedly sexually assaulted while walking in the North End.<\/p>\n
The Winnipeg Police Service says the girl, who officers describe as a pre-teen, was walking near Manitoba Avenue and Salter Street at around 3 a.m. on Saturday when she was approached by a vehicle. The lone male suspect allegedly coaxed the girl into the vehicle with the promise of drugs and alcohol.<\/p>\n
Once inside the vehicle, the suspect drove the child to a nearby alley where he allegedly threatened her at knifepoint and seriously sexually assaulted her.<\/p>\n
Following the assault, the girl fled to a nearby family member’s home and police were called.<\/p>\n
The Child Abuse Unit has taken over the investigation and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The suspect is described as South Asian in appearance, between 30 and 40 years of age with short dark hair and a moustache. Winnipeg police say the suspect was driving a four-door brown-coloured sedan.<\/p>\n
