This is a CFL game built for chaos. Both teams are dealing with real injury problems — BC has six players on six-game injured reserve heading into Saturday, including three offensive linemen, a kicker, and two defensive backs. That’s not a depth chart, that’s a triage unit. Saskatchewan is banged up too, losing linebacker Nick Wiebe to a single-game injury designation Friday and DL Lake Korte-Moore to the six-game list, but the Riders are at home and get a one-point edge from the oddsmakers for a reason.

The big unknown for BC is the kicker situation. Mark McNamee is out on the six-game IR with a hip injury, which means the Lions may be patching together their special teams for a road game in a loud Mosaic Stadium. On the O-line front, losing Isiah Cage, Josh Donovan, and Andrew Peirson in the same week is brutal — whoever BC’s quarterback is, he’d better have quick feet and a quick release, because pass protection could be a real issue. Saskatchewan activated linebacker David Gbenda and DL Liam Hoskins off the practice roster Friday, which at least gives the Riders some reinforcements up front. The home crowd and the depth edge give Saskatchewan a thin but real advantage.

Players to Watch:

Mark McNamee (BC Lions, K) — He’s out, and whoever replaces him carries enormous pressure in a game where one missed field goal could swing the result.

David Gbenda (Saskatchewan Roughriders, LB) — Activated off the practice roster Friday, he steps into a linebacker corps already missing Wiebe and Ryder Varga — expect him to see significant snaps immediately.

Liam Hoskins (Saskatchewan Roughriders, DL) — Also promoted Friday, Hoskins joins a defensive line that lost both Korte-Moore and Benoit Marion, so his production matters right away.

Injury Watch:

Mark McNamee (BC Lions, K) — Out (Hip, six-game IR)

Isiah Cage (BC Lions, OL) — Out (Shoulder, six-game IR)

Josh Donovan (BC Lions, OL) — Out (Ankle, six-game IR)

Andrew Peirson (BC Lions, OL) — Out (Shoulder, six-game IR)

Nate Demontagnac (BC Lions, WR) — Out (Shoulder, six-game IR)

Jett Elad (BC Lions, DB) — Out (Hip, six-game IR)

Garry Peters (BC Lions, DB) — Out (Knee, six-game IR)

Nick Wiebe (Saskatchewan Roughriders, LB) — Out (Head, single-game injury)

Lake Korte-Moore (Saskatchewan Roughriders, DL) — Out (Knee, six-game IR)

Ryder Varga (Saskatchewan Roughriders, LB) — Out (Knee)

Dylan Djete (Saskatchewan Roughriders, WR) — Out (Thigh)

Pick: Saskatchewan Roughriders 28-23. BC’s battered offensive line and the kicker uncertainty on the road is too much to overcome — the Riders take care of business at Mosaic.

Quick Hits

BC placed six players on the six-game injured reserve on Friday alone — Cage, Donovan, Peirson, McNamee, Elad, and Peters — one of the more damaging single-day injury waves you’ll see this early in a season.

Saskatchewan activated both David Gbenda (LB) and Liam Hoskins (DL) off the practice roster Friday, a direct response to losing Korte-Moore, Wiebe, and Varga at linebacker and on the defensive line.

Fantasy tip: With Nate Demontagnac (WR) sidelined on the six-game IR, BC’s other receivers move up the target depth chart — keep an eye on who steps into that role Saturday night.

Saskatchewan moved Brayden Schager to the reserve roster Friday, a quiet but notable QB depth move worth tracking as the Riders manage their roster heading deeper into June.
