{"id":738437,"date":"2026-06-15T14:45:06","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T14:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/738437\/"},"modified":"2026-06-15T14:45:06","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T14:45:06","slug":"metro-vancouver-outside-workers-begin-full-scale-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/738437\/","title":{"rendered":"Metro Vancouver outside workers begin full-scale strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Metro Vancouver outside workers have walked off the job Monday morning in a full-scale strike, their union says.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after two weeks of members of the Greater Vancouver Regional District Employees\u2019 Union (GVRDEU) ramping up job action, with rotating strikes at a number of locations across the region, including water treatment plants, watersheds, and local parks.<\/p>\n<p>Union president Jesse Medeiros says only essential workers will remain on the job as required by the BC Labour Relations Board.<\/p>\n<p>He says members are angry and frustrated after 17 months without a contract.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMetro Vancouver management continue to ignore the concerns of the frontline workers who deliver important services across the region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cManagement will not return to bargaining without the union agreeing to preconditions we\u2019ve previously rejected, and that\u2019s capitulation, not negotiation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to 1130 NewsRadio last week, Metro Vancouver said it was willing to resume talks with the help of a mediator.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have put forward 10 additional dates to resume talks, beyond the five previously declined by the union,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the union has characterized mediation as a precondition, we do not.
