Environment Canada has issued a coastal flooding statement for parts of southern Vancouver Island as strong winds and high astronomical tides are expected to combine overnight.<\/p>\n
The statement covers the Vancouver Island coastline from Clo-oose to East Sooke, including communities along the west and south-facing coastlines.<\/p>\n
According to Environment Canada, elevated ocean water levels accompanied by strong westerly winds could lead to localized coastal flooding between midnight and 4 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16th.<\/p>\n
Forecasters say seasonably high tides, combined with strong winds and wave action, have the potential to push water levels above the highest astronomical tide.<\/p>\n
As a result, low-lying coastal areas and exposed shorelines facing west and south could experience flooding, particularly during the early morning high tide cycle.<\/p>\n
While widespread flooding is not expected, residents living near the shoreline are encouraged to remain aware of changing conditions and monitor the latest forecasts.<\/p>\n
The advisory stretches from the west coast near Clo-oose through to East Sooke.<\/p>\n
Communities along the southern Vancouver Island coastline, including areas near Sooke, Metchosin and parts of Greater Victoria\u2019s waterfront, could see elevated water levels.<\/p>\n
Environment Canada is advising residents to continue monitoring weather forecasts and alerts as conditions develop overnight.<\/p>\n
