Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi were expected to collide for the vacant belt, with the victor set to be ordered to face \u2018Tank\u2019 in a first defence.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, it has since emerged that Davis has instead been ordered to defend against Schofield, and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/InsideRingShow\/status\/2066595548090560895?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Ring\u2019s Mike Coppinger<\/a> has now revealed that talks are progressing for the showdown, with the autumn now targeted.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Gervonta \u201cTank\u201d Davis and Floyd Schofield are targeting a WBA lightweight title fight in the fall, according to The Ring\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MikeCoppinger?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">@MikeCoppinger<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vI5Ca9TX3e\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/vI5Ca9TX3e<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 InsideRingShow (@InsideRingShow) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/InsideRingShow\/status\/2066595548090560895?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">June 15, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Whilst Davis\u2019 inactivity is clear, Schofield has competed in just one professional round since November 2024, that being in a demolition of Tevin Farmer on a Jake Paul undercard almost 12 months ago.<\/p>\n<p>He had been scheduled to challenge for the WBC lightweight world title, which belonged to Shakur Stevenson, back in February 2025, but <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/shakur-stevenson-fight-off-as-floyd-schofield-withdraws\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Schofield pulled out of the affair during fight week due to an illness<\/a>, replaced by Josh Padley \u2013 who was stopped after nine rounds of action.<\/p>\n<p>While \u2018Tank\u2019s side has been quiet publicly since the order, Schofield\u2019s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has confirmed that negotiations are ongoing, and said in his last update that they were awaiting a formal contract.
