This weekend marks National Indigenous Peoples Day, and the city is celebrating with an Indigenous-owned vendor market and community events at the Brampton Farmers\u2019 Market.<\/p>\n
Held every June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to celebrate and honour the diverse cultures, voices, histories and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and M\u00e9tis peoples in Brampton and across Canada.<\/p>\n
But the city will celebrate a day early on June 20 in Garden Square in collaboration with the Brampton Farmers\u2019 Market, which will feature local Indigenous artisans, makers and creators offering handmade goods, beadwork, artwork and more.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Brampton, we remain committed to deepening understanding, strengthening respect and advancing reconciliation through community connection and learning from Indigenous voices and experiences,\u201d Mayor Patrick Brown said in a release. \u201cI encourage residents to visit Garden Square, support Indigenous businesses, enjoy live entertainment and take part in this meaningful celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event starts at 9 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m., with an \u200bIndigenous-owned vendor market, community information booths and activations, and live music from \u200b\u200bDJ 5rivers.<\/p>\n
Vendors will include Awana Arts Crafts, Bakeapple Beads, Leaves Changing Colours, Bone & Quill, and Four Colours Drum Circle, among others.<\/p>\n
Last year, Brampton City Council formally accepted the Brampton Archaeological Management Plan, making Brampton one of only four municipalities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area with an archaeological management plan. The framework establishes a process for collaboration with Host Nations on projects taking place within their traditional territories.<\/p>\n
The city also renamed two parkettes, Mashkiki and Bangan Parkettes, in September 2025, and hosted its first Pow Wow in October 2025 as part of the City\u2019s ongoing journey towards reconciliation.<\/p>\n
