A 22-year-old Brampton man is facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police recovered three stolen vehicles during an early morning investigation west of Ottawa.<\/p>\n
The arrest was made June 16 after officers with the Lanark County OPP received information from a vehicle security monitoring company indicating that two stolen vehicles from the Peel Region were travelling eastbound on Highway 7.<\/p>\n
Just after 2 a.m., officers located the two vehicles along with a third vehicle travelling near Carleton Place. Police said all three vehicles were being driven without licence plates.<\/p>\n
Officers were able to stop one of the vehicles and arrest the driver. The other two vehicles failed to stop and continued on before being found abandoned a short time later in Beckwith Township.<\/p>\n
Police launched a search involving an OPP canine unit, Emergency Response Team members and the Ottawa Police Service. The suspects who fled from the two abandoned vehicles were not located.<\/p>\n
As a result of the investigation, 22-year-old Harbalab Shergill of Brampton has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.<\/p>\n
The accused was held for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on June 16.<\/p>\n
Police have not released details regarding the ownership of the stolen vehicles or whether additional charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n
