Medicine Hat is feeling “grief and disbelief and deep heartache,” according to the mayor, after an 11-year-old child died of a suspected drowning during a field trip to a regional park on Monday.<\/p>\n

The Medicine Hat Police Service said its officers were called to a report of a missing child just after 2 p.m. on Monday at Echo Dale Regional Park, about six kilometres west of the city in the South Saskatchewan River valley.<\/p>\n

Officers say the child was located at 3:30 p.m. and transported to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. A later update from police said the child had died of a suspected drowning.<\/p>\n

Police told CBC News that no other information would be released.<\/p>\n
