But he was also making business moves behind the scenes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTowns is in the process of trademarking a logo incorporating his initials, \u201cKAT.\u201d The mark is intended for sporting articles, specifically basketballs, and was initially filed in October 2025. The application was approved on May 15 and published on June 9, giving the public 30 days to raise any objections to the trademark\u2019s registration. If there\u2019s no opposition, it will move toward the next phase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe 30-year-old Towns has been pursuing this trademark for some time now. A separate application with the same mark and category classification was filed in 2022. However, it was abandoned three years later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe also had two other attempts at trademarks that are now inactive as of June, including a logo stylizing the letter \u201cK\u201d and \u201cKarlito,\u201d the name Towns <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/college-basketball\/news\/kentuckys-karl-anthony-towns-opens-up-about-his-alter-ego-and-friend-karlito\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">uses<\/a> for his self-described alter ego and imaginary friend. Both of those marks targeted a wide swath of categories, from mobile games, jewelry and bags to container goods, textiles, clothing and sporting articles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTowns isn\u2019t the only member of the Knicks dabbling in trademarks. OG Anunoby has had his own logo application <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportico.com\/business\/commerce\/2026\/og-anunoby-shoe-skechers-trademark-registration-logo-1234903137\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">in the works<\/a> since January. That mark uses the letters \u201cOG,\u201d the initials he goes by instead of his given name, Ogugua, and is set to enter its opposition phase later this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEven though the trademark hasn\u2019t been registered yet, Anunoby\u2019s logo has been featured on multiple editions of his player exclusive sneakers with Skechers that he\u2019s used in games, like the SKX Nexus \u201cNYC Blue\u201d and the SKX Reign \u201cADV-OG.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOn Monday, Skechers president Michael Greenberg said the company has \u201ca signature shoe in the works\u201d for the company\u2019s burgeoning star.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTowns and Anunoby are represented by the same agency, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportico.com\/t\/caa\/\" id=\"auto-tag_caa_1\" data-tag=\"caa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CAA<\/a>, and the same law firm, Dinsmore &amp; Shohl LLP, was listed on all five trademark applications. CAA declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA former No. 1 pick with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Towns was long seen as a savior to the Midwestern franchise that has never won an NBA title. He was shipped off to New York two years ago in a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/news\/karl-anthony-towns-trade-knicks-timberwolves\">three-team trade<\/a> and played an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportico.com\/leagues\/basketball\/2026\/new-york-knicks-nba-finals-champion-1234903259\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">instrumental role<\/a> in the Knicks\u2019 title run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSince arriving in the Big Apple, his off-the-court profile has risen. Towns has 4.6 million Instagram followers, the most of any players on the Knicks roster, and he recently made a cameo in the film The Devil Wears Prada 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe earns an estimated $6 million annually off the court from a group of brand partners that includes 2K, Fanatics, Gatorade, Nike, Jomboy, New Era and Bloomingdales.
