LOS ANGELES \u2014 Shohei Ohtani will make his scheduled start on the mound against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.<\/p>\n
Ohtani (6-2, 1.06 ERA) left last Thursday\u2019s game in Pittsburgh with\u00a0left knee inflammation.\u00a0He missed the next day’s game against the White Sox in Chicago, then returned for Saturday\u2019s game. This will be his first start since the injury in Chicago.<\/p>\n
Roberts said Tuesday the swelling in Ohtani\u2019s knee had \u201ccompletely dissipated.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI saw that he had just a catch-play right now,\u201d Roberts said of Ohtani\u2019s work. \u201cHe\u2019s going to do his touchy-feely deal from the mound in a little bit. I saw him play some catch. Looks good, feels good. Look forward to him making a start tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wednesday\u2019s game against the Rays is an early afternoon start. It\u2019s a tight window to prep and an early start.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe likes his sleep. It\u2019s certainly not ideal, but the calendar is the calendar,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cHe\u2019ll get his rest and do what he can to post tomorrow. \u2026 Anyone that has anything that has a potential red flag, we\u2019ll certainly be watching closely. But again, he wouldn\u2019t start if we felt that we were going to put him in harm\u2019s way. He\u2019s a competitor.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked if Ohtani will bat in addition to pitching, Roberts said he was undecided.<\/p>\n
