{"id":743531,"date":"2026-06-17T21:22:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T21:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/743531\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T21:22:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T21:22:09","slug":"update-nl-health-services-apologizes-for-phishing-excercise-that-baited-health-care-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/743531\/","title":{"rendered":"UPDATE: NL Health Services Apologizes for Phishing Excercise That Baited Health Care Workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/ron-johnson-2.png\" class=\"header-image\" alt=\"UPDATE: NL Health Services Apologizes for Phishing Excercise That Baited Health Care Workers\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Interim CEO of NLHS Ron Johnson (VOCM News)<\/p>\n<p>NL Health Services is apologizing to staff for a recent cybersecurity awareness excercise that has drawn the ire of workers throughout the health care system. <\/p>\n<p>The phishing simulation was disguised as an email of appreciation to staff for their hard work and patience during the turbulent and hectic period in which the CorCare system was being implemented. <\/p>\n<p>It offered employees a paid day off for their service by clicking a link. <\/p>\n<p>The health authority says it recognizes that the way in which the phishing excercise was presented was \u201cnot appropriate\u201d and interim CEO Ron Johnson is offering his sincere apology to employees, physicians and union representatives. <\/p>\n<p>Johnson says the email \u201creally missed the mark\u201d and that the proper checks and balances were not in place prior to it being sent out. If they had been, Johnson says it would never have gone out. <\/p>\n<p>NLHS  works with a third party company, Ernst and Young, on its cybersecurity campaigns, and he says an internal investigation is underway to determine how the message was crafted and sent out. <\/p>\n<p>Johnson acknowledges the frustration being felt by workers who received the email. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand why they\u2019re mad, I do. I can understand why they\u2019re frustrated\u2026and on behalf of the organization I apologize for that.
