Thiessen, who announced earlier this month that he will step down as HSD superintendent at the end of 2026,<\/a> has been named the next superintendent and CEO of Winnipeg Mennonite School, effective January 2027.<\/p>\nOver the last three decades, Thiessen has served as a teacher, principal and educational leader.\u00a0He currently serves as superintendent and CEO of HSD, where he works alongside staff, families, trustees, and community partners to support student achievement and foster a culture of growth and excellence.<\/p>\n
According to WMS, Thiessen brings decades of experience in education and school leadership, guided by a Christian faith that emphasizes relationships, service, and the transformative power of learning.<\/p>\n
Thiessen firmly believes that schools have the opportunity to change lives and strengthen communities.<\/p>\n
Thiessen says in the announcement that he is excited for the opportunity to join the WMS community, listen to their stories, learn from their experiences, and work together to support the success and well-being of every student.<\/p>\n
Thiessen’s background and approach to leadership make him a strong fit for the school’s mission.<\/p>\n

Thiessen holds a Master of Education in Educational Administration and a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Education from the University of Manitoba, as well as a Bachelor of Education degree from Brandon University.<\/p>\n
Thiessen said some of the most rewarding aspects of his career have come through the relationships he has built and the successes achieved by students and colleagues.<\/p>\n
As he prepares to join WMS, he said he is committed to relationship-based leadership, community engagement, and creating environments where students, educators, support staff, and families experience a strong sense of belonging and purpose.<\/p>\n
