24-hour Breka bakery opens in Surrey at food-focused King George Hub<\/p>\n

People lined up for a taste of Breka Bakery & Caf\u00e9 at the new Surrey location, ninth in the Vancouver-based chain.<\/p>\n
The popular 24-hour bakery opened Thursday (June 11) at King George Hub, home to a growing number of food and drink businesses.<\/p>\n
By 10:30 a.m. on Breka\u2019s opening day, the queue of people stretched the length of the building at the corner of Fraser Highway and Whalley Boulevard.<\/p>\n
Anna Kruger waited close to 45 minutes to enter a place she\u2019s visited before in Vancouver.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been maybe half a dozen times,\u201d she said. \u201cAnytime we\u2019re in Vancouver, I\u2019m like, \u2018We gotta hit Breka before we leave.\u2019 It\u2019s open 24 hours, so you can go after an event, a concert. We usually do that and I buy a big bag and bring it home.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s just nice that it\u2019s open late. You don\u2019t have to go to a bakery before 1 p.m. before everything sells out.<\/p>\n \u201cI think this is going to be huge \u2014 somewhere to go for a dessert after you go see a movie, something like that. It\u2019s a nice spot,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n Friends Asmi Pahwa and Siya Kalra also lined up Thursday morning.<\/p>\n \u201cIn Vancouver it\u2019s a go-to spot, basically, at the end of a night,\u201d said Pahwa, who likes Breka\u2019s chicken panini and matcha, while Kalra prefers the bakery\u2019s spinach artichoke pastry.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s good to have one here because we live right over there, not too far. It\u2019s very convenient, two minutes away,\u201d Pahwa added.<\/p>\n King George Hub\u2019s business directory<\/a> now lists 23 food and restaurant establishments, from A&W to Waffle House, at the SkyTrain Station. Other options include Big Way Hot Pot, Chipotle, Jollibee<\/a>, Marble Slab Creamery, Pokerrito, Ruex Caf\u00e9 and Bar, Sushi Street and more.<\/p>\n The complex is also home to Save-On-Foods, Rexall, Anytime Fitness, Sandbox VR<\/a> and other shops and services.<\/p>\n
