\n\tDenzel Washington<\/a> has his own take on the cancel culture debate.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile discussing his latest film, \u201cHighest 2 Lowest<\/a>,\u201d with Complex News<\/a>,\u00a0 the actor posed the question, \u201cWhat does that mean \u2014 to be canceled?\u201d when asked if he ever worries about being \u201ccanceled.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen told by the interviewer, Jillian Hardeman-Webb, \u201cit means you lose public support,\u201d Washington replied, \u201cWho cares?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSitting with frequent collaborator and \u201cHighest 2 Lowest\u201d director Spike Lee<\/a>, Washington continued, \u201cWhat made public support so important to begin with?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHardeman-Webb replied that \u201cfollowers now are currency,\u201d to which Washington answered with a emboldened response.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t care who\u2019s following who,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can\u2019t lead and follow at the same time, and you can\u2019t follow and lead at the same time. I don\u2019t follow anybody. I follow the heavenly spirit. I follow God, I don\u2019t follow man. I have faith in God. I have hope in man, but look around, it ain\u2019t working out so well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cYou can\u2019t be canceled if you haven\u2019t signed up. Don\u2019t sign up.\u201d While laughing and stretching his arms, he told Lee, \u201cDon\u2019t get me started. You know, chest is getting tight talking about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHaving a similar attitude, Lee added, \u201cI could care less.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThis isn\u2019t the first time Washington has expressed how he\u2019s unaffected by public opinion. In a conversation with journalist Jake Hamilton on \u201cJake\u2019s Takes,\u201d the Oscar winner shared he does not care about winning Academy Awards.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t do it for the Oscars,\u201d he said. \u201cI really don\u2019t care about that kind of stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWashington continued, \u201cI\u2019ve been at this a long time, and there\u2019s times when I\u2019ve won, shouldn\u2019t have won, didn\u2019t win, should have won. Man gives the award. God gives the reward. I\u2019m not that interested in the Oscars. People say, \u2018Well, where do you keep it?\u2019 I say, \u2018Next to the other one.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m not bragging. I\u2019m just telling you how I feel about it.
