No, seriously, you can go any time now. Don’t get me wrong, I much prefer my summers to be rainy all the time, compared with, say, wildfire smoke choking us all the livelong day. But I think it’s safe to say we’re good now. A little bit of sunshine would be nice, so I can actually use my rain-drenched deck. But alas, the weather gods have other ideas in mind.

Environment Canada has issued a yellow rainfall warning for the city of Edmonton and surrounding areas, calling for heavy rain all weekend, with total amounts ranging from 50 to 100 mm.

“Rain will intensify this morning and continue through Sunday, before tapering off Sunday night,” the warning reads. “Isolated thunderstorms are also possible throughout this event and may locally enhance rainfall amounts. Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Some property damage is possible.”

The rainfall warning spans most of central Alberta with the heaviest pockets expected just south and east of the city in communities including Fort Saskatchewan, Wetaskiwin, Camrose and Vegreville.

Rainfall warnings span most of central Alberta Saturday, June 20, 2026.

In areas that fall under the orange alert, residents can expect rainfall amounts in the area of 70 to 100 mm.

“Given already saturated ground conditions due to the well above normal rainfall this month, the ability to absorb additional rainfall will be limited, increasing the risk of overland flooding and impact to infrastructure,” the orange warning reads.

“Localized flooding is likely. Some roads may become impassable. Significant property damage is likely.”

Thunderstorms are also likely to occur over the weekend, but the strongest possibility for severe thunderstorms lies in the southern portions of the province.

Daily thunderstorm outlook for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Edmonton forecast

Today: Cloudy.
