SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane’s chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness held a walk Saturday morning at Riverfront Park to raise money and awareness for the organization.<\/p>\n
The annual walk helps fund a variety of programs and mental health resources that NAMI offers for free to the community.<\/p>\n
Participants carried signs showing messages of positivity and love to ensure that anyone who saw the procession knows they are not alone.<\/p>\n
“You never know who you may be impacting outside of this circle, who doesn’t know about NAMI, who doesn’t know that we can talk about mental health,” said NAMI Spokane’s executive director Chauntelle Lieske. “I think when we show up in spaces like this and we are very vocal about mental health, it’s very important.”<\/p>\n
NAMI has been helping break down the stigma of talking about mental health across the country since 1979.<\/p>\n
