Hostilities on the 47th edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria Senior Tennis championship\u00a0 ended in Abuja at the weekend with new\u00a0 champions emerging. In\u00a0 both the men and women\u2019s singles\u00a0 a Categories well as the mem\u2019s and women\u2019s doubles class.\n<\/p>\n
In the women\u2019s single final, 18 year-old\u00a0 player, Etoro Bassey who just stepped into the Senior and had a first feel of the CBN Senior Tennis tournament\u00a0 defeated\u00a0 a much older player and two time back to back two-time\u00a0 Junior champion of the\u00a0 International Tennis\u00a0 Federation ( JTF ), Ogunjobi Success, 2-1 ( 3-6, 6-0, 6-2) to lift the trophy .\n<\/p>\n
Addressing participants at the event, the governor of Central Bank, Olayemi Cardoso, ably represented by Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, Acting Director Corporate Communications and Investor Relations Department, CBN, commended the athletes, officials, stakeholders and spectators for their commitment and contributions towards the overall success of programme.<\/p>\n
Cardoso promised that the CBN is committed \u00a0 to the overall development of Nigeria youths and as such, the apex bank will continue to sponsor the championship in the overall interest of the nation.\n<\/p>\n
In the mem\u2019s singles category Nigeria\u2019s no I and tournament top\u00a0 seed\u00a0 Abua Canice beat last year winner and\u00a0 defending champion, .Michael AKpan Emmanuel 2-0, ( 6-1, 6-2).\n<\/p>\n
