A gas leak and a house fire kept Winnipeg firefighters busy Sunday, prompting evacuations and an emergency response at two separate locations.<\/p>\n
In the first call, fire crews responded to a blaze in a\u00a0single-family bungalow in the 100 block of Adsum Drive.<\/p>\n
Smoke reported at Adsum Drive home<\/p>\n
Smoke was coming from the home when crews arrived. They entered the home and fought the fire from inside, bringing it under control about 20 minutes later.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The occupants of the home escaped safely before crews arrived. One person was assessed at the scene but did not require transport to hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A cat was found in the home and rescued by firefighters.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

Later in the day, around 8:10 p.m.,\u00a0crews were dispatched to the 400 block of Langside Street for reports of a natural gas smell at a vacant home.<\/p>\n
Firefighters detected elevated gas levels inside the residence, prompting the evacuation of several nearby homes as a precaution. The surrounding area was also closed to traffic.<\/p>\n
Manitoba Hydro crews responded to the scene and repaired the leak.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Once gas levels returned to safe levels, residents were allowed to return, and the road was reopened.<\/p>\n
