Brampton\u2019s growing life sciences sector has received a significant boost as Sun Pharma has marked a major expansion of its local operations, highlighting the city\u2019s role in high-value pharmaceutical manufacturing and global health innovation.<\/p>\n
The City of Brampton hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 19, celebrating more than $56 million in new investment at the company\u2019s East Drive facilities, along with the creation of more than 35 new jobs.<\/p>\n
The expansion strengthens a highly specialized pharmaceutical operation that already employs more than 740 workers in Brampton, making the site a key part of Sun Pharma\u2019s North American manufacturing network.<\/p>\n
City officials and company leaders say the investment reflects both the scale and complexity of modern pharmaceutical production taking place in Brampton, including advanced manufacturing, controlled storage systems and regulated production environments designed to meet strict global standards.<\/p>\n
As part of the expansion, the facility now includes a 50,000-square-foot environmentally controlled warehouse capable of holding approximately 4,500 pallets of pharmaceutical products, as well as a new regulated production suite and a state-of-the-art quick changeover tube filling line. Additional upgrades are also planned for existing facilities on East Drive.<\/p>\n
Sun Pharma\u2019s operations in Brampton produce medicines for both Canadian and international markets, positioning the site within a tightly regulated global supply chain where precision, quality control and compliance are essential.<\/p>\n
Mayor Patrick Brown said the investment underscores Brampton\u2019s ability to attract global firms in advanced manufacturing and health sciences, pointing to the city\u2019s workforce and business environment as key drivers.<\/p>\n
City officials also emphasized the broader significance of the expansion as part of Brampton\u2019s strategy to grow its health and life sciences cluster, alongside major developments such as the Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine and the new Peel Memorial Hospital tower.<\/p>\n
Sun Pharma, headquartered in India and operating in Canada through Sun Pharma Canada Inc., is one of the world\u2019s largest specialty generic pharmaceutical companies.<\/p>\n
Company representatives said the Brampton expansion strengthens its ability to supply medicines across Canada while deepening its long-term commitment to the region.<\/p>\n
The company has also been involved in the city\u2019s MedTech Task Force, which brings together industry, academic and healthcare partners to support innovation in the sector.<\/p>\n
Officials say the investment reinforces Brampton\u2019s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing and life sciences, while supporting high-skilled local employment and long-term economic growth.<\/p>\n
