The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an ongoing recall for a specific lot of chlorthalidone tablets<\/a>, which treat high blood pressure.<\/p>\n

The FDA\u2019s reason for recalling the medication is \u201cfailed dissolution specifications.\u201d<\/a> When this happens, the active ingredient in the affected tablets doesn\u2019t properly dissolve out of its dosage unit, meaning that the medication itself might not be able to be absorbed by your body and you might not get a full enough dose to treat your condition.<\/p>\n

Chlorthalidone is crucial for controlling hypertension in many patients. According to Mayo Clinic<\/a>, the drug works by causing you to pee more often. Less water in your body lowers your blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is also used to reduce edema, or excess fluid, in the tissues of patients with heart, liver, and kidney disease.<\/p>\n

The recall items<\/p>\n

The recall was issued on June 5, 2026, and was voluntarily initiated by the drug\u2019s manufacturer, Inventia Healthcare Limited. The drug is distributed in the U.S. by Risiong Pharma Holdings, Inc. Over 11,000 bottles have been recalled, and the batch includes both the 100- and 1,000-count bottles of 25-milligram chlorthalidone tablets.<\/p>\n

If you have a 100-tablet bottle, look on the label for the code number 64980-599-01 and the batch number RISA24001.<\/p>\n

Check a 1,000-tablet bottle for the code number 64980-599-10 and the batch number RISB24002.<\/p>\n

Additionally, all of the recalled products have a printed expiration date of “04\/2027” on the bottle.<\/p>\n

What to do if you have the recalled medicine<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no reason to panic, but it\u2019s always best to be on the safe side. First, call your pharmacy. Your pharmacist can advise you about how to get a refund, and\/or recommend a replacement medication.<\/p>\n

Next, call your health care provider and explain that you\u2019ve been taking the recalled tablets, if that\u2019s the case. Your doctor may want to see you, just to make sure you aren\u2019t experiencing any adverse effects if you haven\u2019t been receiving the full dosage of your meds.<\/p>\n
