Iron Maiden<\/a>\u2019s concert in Paris on Monday night was interrupted by an hour-long power outage.<\/p>\n

The performance, which took place at the La D\u00e9fense Arena, was being recorded for Maiden’s upcoming Run For Your Lives Tour film. Before the show, fans were notified that the concert would be phone-free, a move made to provide the \u201coptimal viewing experience\u201d for the film. However, what the band and its team didn\u2019t anticipate was a massive blackout.<\/p>\n

The incident took place as Iron Maiden was charging through their 1984 single \u201c2 Minutes to Midnight\u201d \u2013 ironic, considering the tune was released on the album Powerslave. Fans weren\u2019t left in the dark for long, as backup generators kicked in. However, they only provided enough electricity for the house lights. And the issue, reportedly part of a larger\u00a0power outage affecting the arena\u2019s neighborhood, took an extended time to fix.<\/p>\n

Initially, fans tried to make the best of it, clapping and cheering in an effort to get the band back onstage. However, as time ticked on, frustrations grew. Paris is in the midst of a heat wave, and reportedly the arena\u2019s air conditioning remained off for an extended amount of time. According to one of Iron Maiden’s European fan clubs<\/a>, many people had left by the time the band finally returned, roughly an hour after the initial power outage.<\/p>\n

Maiden resumed with \u201cRime of the Ancient Mariner\u201d and went on to play such classics as \u201cRun to the Hills\u201d and \u201cThe Trooper.\u201d However, because of the delay, the band was pushed up against local curfew. Thus, authorities did not allow the metal legends to return for an encore.<\/p>\n

Fans Sound Off After Iron Maiden Power Outage<\/p>\n

On social media<\/a>, attendees of the Paris show expressed their frustrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe came all the way from Romania for this show. We spent a lot of money on f\u2014ing Paris (which is expensive as we all know) just to be at this concert. We were waiting for this for so long. F\u2014 this,\u201d wrote one fan. \u201cIt\u2019s obviously not Maiden\u2019s fault but oh is the frustration high!\u201d<\/p>\n

Another fan, clearly disappointed that standard Maiden encore songs like \u201cAces High\u201d and \u201cFear of the Dark\u201d were not performed, questioned the band\u2019s choices once the concert resumed. \u201cSorry you CAN do better,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIf time is critical then skip other songs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others described the scene as \u201cabsolutely disappointing\u201d and a \u201cwasted concert.\u201d Many fans asked if there would be refunds, while others wondered if Maiden will now record a different performance for their concert film.<\/p>\n

Still, there were a few fans who managed to find the silver lining to the power outage. An attendee named Laurent Lolo noted on Iron Maiden’s Facebook<\/a> that\u00a0the band seemed \u201ceven more motivated\u201d when they returned, describing the whole thing as \u201csurreal.\u201d \u201cWhat a performance\u2026 I\u2019ve never heard it so powerful.\u201d<\/p>\n
