{"id":75696,"date":"2025-08-17T05:40:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-17T05:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/75696\/"},"modified":"2025-08-17T05:40:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T05:40:20","slug":"phillies-ace-zack-wheeler-diagnosed-with-blood-clot-in-right-arm-placed-on-15-day-il","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/75696\/","title":{"rendered":"Phillies ace Zack Wheeler diagnosed with blood clot in right arm, placed on 15-day IL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/teams\/philadelphia-phillies\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"philadelphia-phillies\" data-league=\"mlb\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> placed ace Zack Wheeler on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a blood clot in his right arm.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Dombrowski, the president of baseball operations for the Phillies, said after a\u00a02-0 loss at Washington\u00a0that Wheeler had been diagnosed with a \u201cright, upper extremity blood clot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s not a lot that we can say on it at this time,\u201d said Dombrowski, who commended doctors for finding the clot. \u201cIt could have been a much more trying situation than it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phillies head athletic trainer Paul Buchheit said Wheeler had been feeling better after some right shoulder soreness, but that changed Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe felt a little heaviness,&#8221; Buchheit said. &#8220;So, the doctors here were great in helping to diagnose and expedite that diagnosis this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Buchheit said he didn\u2019t think Wheeler\u2019s present condition had anything to do with his previous stiffness. He said there is a wide variety of treatments available, but declined to get into specifics.<\/p>\n<p>Dombrowski said Wheeler would be evaluated further in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>Wheeler pitched Friday against Washington and was limited to five innings for the second consecutive start. The right-hander allowed two runs and four hits.<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old Wheeler is 10-5 this season with a 2.71 ERA.
