Phoebe Bridgers<\/a> has announced her new album \u2018Lost Weekend\u2019 and teased details of the first taster from the record.<\/p>\n

The follow-up to 2020\u2019s \u2018Punisher<\/a>\u2019, is set to be released on August 14 on Dead Oceans and comes after\u00a0the singer-songwriter played her first live solo live show in three years last month in Roswell, New Mexico<\/a>, where she debuted three new songs. At the time, she also strongly suggested that a new album may be on its way, and fans in attendance each received an exclusive card, which at the time appeared to combine to make up what many people thought was the artwork for Bridgers\u2019 next release.<\/p>\n

But the record, which according to a press release finds Bridgers at the \u201cheight of her powers, a master, taking nothing more seriously than this craft, refining here many of the motifs that distinguished her work previously on this new album that\u2019s otherwise, everywhere, full of surprises,\u201d actually has a different piece of artwork, which you can view below.<\/p>\n

She also announced on Instagram, that a new song from the record will drop tomorrow (Thursday June 25), but at this stage it is unclear what it is.<\/p>\n

After the singer-songwriter\u2019s previous record, she\u00a0performed with Boygenius<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 the trio of Bridgers,\u00a0Lucy Dacus<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Julien Baker<\/a>, though they\u00a0announced they were going on hiatus<\/a>\u00a0after the completion of their critically acclaimed album \u2018The Record<\/a>\u2019 in 2023, which at the time was named our album of the year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During her recent shows, Bridgers played several songs from her two solo albums, \u2018Stranger\u00a0In\u00a0The\u00a0Alps<\/a>\u2019 and \u2018Punisher\u2019, while the new songs were described by those in attendance as \u201cvery sad folk\u201d with harmonica arrangements.<\/p>\n

Bridgers also reportedly said that she saw the show as a \u201ctest\u201d for whatever is set to come next.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

At a more recent show at Madison Square Garden which NME witnessed<\/a>, she debuted seven new tracks many of which continued the singular sound Bridgers built on \u2018Punisher\u2019 \u2013 melancholy lyrics made up of astute observations of the state of the world and relationships, backed by slow strumming guitars and orchestration that oscillates from Americana to indie folk.<\/p>\n

Some of the songwriting also harkened back to the unabashed candidness of her debut album, 2017\u2019s \u2018Stranger in the Alps\u2019. A new number she announced with \u201cthis song is about the past, though I\u2019m told all of my songs are,\u201d came with a crushing, crescendoing chorus that saw her and Christian Lee Hutson<\/a>\u00a0strumming emphatically as she alluded to an ill-fated engagement.<\/p>\n

Bridgers also used the gig to call out ICE and raise funding for immigrants<\/a>. All proceeds from ticket sales went to Community Justice Exchange\u2019s Immigration Bond Freedom Fund<\/a>, which provides aid and bail to those in ICE detention centres.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, she recently announced plans to hit the road<\/a> in support of her new album in the UK, Ireland and North America and added further dates<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Support comes from Alex G<\/a> at the North American shows and Isaac Wood at UK and European dates, and Bridgers has confirmed that there will be a \u201cno phones\u201d rule at all upcoming gigs.
