\u201cFjord<\/a>,\u201d a searing family drama that won the Palme d\u2019Or at Cannes Film Festival, will hit theaters in the fall.<\/p>\n

Neon<\/a>, which acquired the movie a year ago, has slated \u201cFjord\u201d for Oct. 9, the same release date as the studio\u2019s prior Palme winners including \u201cParasite,\u201d \u201cAnora\u201d and \u201cAnatomy of a Fall.\u201d All of those films went on to score Oscar nominations, with \u201cParasite\u201d and \u201cAnora\u201d landing the statue for best picture.<\/p>\n

Directed by Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, \u201cFjord\u201d stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as the parents of a Romanian family with strict religious beliefs who move to a small village in Norway. When bruises are noticed on their daughter\u2019s body at school, their five children are taken away from them and a legal saga ensues. Variety\u2019s Guy Lodge called the film a<\/a> \u201cbrilliantly knotted social drama, writing that \u201ceverything is happening at all times in \u2018Fjord,\u2019 as befits a film sharply attuned to the world\u2019s ever-expanding possibilities for movement, misunderstanding and conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mungiu previously won Cannes\u2019 highest honor, the Palme d\u2019Or, in 2007 with \u201c4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days,\u201d and was later awarded the festival\u2019s best screenplay prize in 2012 for \u201cBeyond the Hills\u201d and the best director prize in 2016 for \u201cGraduation.\u201d<\/p>\n
