Crews discover a man with no vital signs after a house fire in Brampton near Williams Parkway and the 410. <\/p>\n
The Office of the Fire Marshal will be investigating a blaze at a Brampton home that left one man dead, officials say. <\/p>\n
The fire broke out at a residence on Royal Salisbury Way, near Highway 410 and Williams Parkway, at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday. <\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters at the scene on Thursday, Brampton Fire Chief Andy Glynn said crews arrived to find flames on the second floor of a semi-detached home, which was registered as a two-unit apartment. <\/p>\n
One occupant was found on the second floor and removed from the home. The victim, who has been described as an elderly man, was pronounced dead at the scene. <\/p>\n
Glynn said two people were initially unaccounted for but it was later discovered that they had been away from the home at the time of the fire. <\/p>\n
The occupants of an adjacent unit self-evacuated and no other injuries were reported. <\/p>\n
Glynn said it appears the fire started in a second-floor bedroom, but noted that it will be up to the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) to determine the cause, origin, and circumstances surrounding the blaze.<\/p>\n
It is not yet clear if the unit had working smoke detectors but Glynn said crews did not hear smoke alarms upon arrival.<\/p>\n
