Eddie Murphy is returning to voice his signature role in the film, which will serve as an origin story of how a donkey became Donkey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cDonkey\u201d will be directed by Charlie Bean (\u201cThe Lego Batman Movie\u201d\u00a0and the live-action\u00a0\u201cLady and The Tramp\u201d), produced by Rebecca Huntley (\u201cKung Fu Panda 4\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cThe Bad Guys\u201d), and co-directed by Matt Flynn, whose story artist credits at DreamWorks include\u00a0\u201cThe Wild Robot,\u201d\u00a0\u201cPuss in Boots: The Last Wish\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cThe Bad Guys 2.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA year before \u201cDonkey\u201d trots to theaters, Universal and DreamWorks are releasing \u201cShrek 5\u201d in summer 2027. Mike Myers, Murphy and Cameron Diaz are returning to the fictional land of Far, Far Away in their signature roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona, while Zendaya is joining the cast. \u201cShrek 5\u201d\u00a0will be directed by franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFirst released in 2000, the \u201cShrek\u201d franchise puts a spin on the concept of Happily Ever After, as told by a misunderstood ogre and his merry band of fairytale folk. The original \u201cShrek\u201d became an instant hit with nearly $500 million globally as well as the first-ever Oscar winner for animated feature. The film was followed by three sequels \u2014 2004\u2019s \u201cShrek 2,\u201d 2007\u2019s \u201cShrek the Third\u201d and 2010\u2019s \u201cShrek Forever After\u201d and two \u201cPuss in Boots\u201d spinoffs, which have collectively grossed more than $3 billion worldwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Donkey!
