Universal Pictures has made official, what <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/shrek\/\" id=\"auto-tag_shrek\" data-tag=\"shrek\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shrek<\/a> star <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/eddie-murphy\/\" id=\"auto-tag_eddie-murphy\" data-tag=\"eddie-murphy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eddie Murphy<\/a> began talking about on the press tour for Beverly Hill Cop: Axel Foley: There\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/donkey\/\" id=\"auto-tag_donkey\" data-tag=\"donkey\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donkey<\/a> movie happening from DreamWorks Animation and it\u2019s coming to theaters on Friday, June 30, 2028. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe movie is an origin stories on how a donkey, became Donkey. Pic is directed by Charlie Bean (The Lego Batman Movie\u00a0and the live-action\u00a0Lady and The Tramp), produced by Rebecca Huntley (Kung Fu Panda 4\u00a0and\u00a0The Bad Guys), and co-directed by Matt Flynn, whose story artist credits at DreamWorks include\u00a0The Wild Robot,\u00a0Puss in Boots: The Last Wish\u00a0and\u00a0The Bad Guys 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLast summer, Murphy told ScreenRant, \u201cDonkey\u2019s going to have his own movie, own little story with his dragon wife and his kids that are half-dragon and half-donkeys\u2026They\u2019ve written this funny story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tUniversal already had the date on hold under untitled Illumination event film on the Rentrak calendar. The news comes prior to Shrek 5\u2018s theatrical release, which is next summer, June 30, 2027. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA\u00a0Donkey\u00a0spinoff movie about the sassy mule is an organic blockbuster: The two\u00a0Puss in Boots\u00a0movies combined grossed $1 billion which raises the total\u00a0Shrek\u00a0universe across six movies to $4 billion. Shrek won the first ever Animated Feature Oscar back in 2001 and spawned a global live-touring show, an award winning Broadway musical with eight Tony noms and 12 Drama Desk noms, in addition to being a top-tourist destination in London and popular events and attractions across Universal Studios Parks worldwide.
