Summer is in full swing<\/a>, and one of the world\u2019s richest people is enjoying B.C.\u2019s beautiful waters by bringing their superyacht out to play.<\/p>\n

A massive vessel belonging to Facebook founder and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg was spotted sailing off the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday, June 24.<\/p>\n

Powell River resident Clayton Thom snapped a photo of the $300-million superyacht as it passed by Beach Gardens Resort & Marina in Powell River, sharing that it was a unique sight.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy reaction to it was shock, wondering how one can flash such wealth by having a support yacht cruise ahead with a chopper on it,\u201d Thom told Daily Hive.<\/p>\n

\u201cI heard it through word of mouth here in town, and Google helped confirm that. \u201cI do think there is stunning craftsmanship with this vessel.<\/p>\n

Zuckerberg\u2019s vessel is named\u00a0Launchpad and was constructed in 2024 by Netherlands-based luxury shipmaker Feadship<\/a>. It is normally accompanied by a support watercraft with the name Wingman.<\/p>\n

The 119-metre vessel is one of the most expensive private yachts in the world, with a helipad, onboard gym and spa, and more amenities.<\/p>\n

It was reported to have also been anchored near South Pender Island after being docked for a few days in Seattle.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0The Yacht Company<\/a>, Motor Yacht Launchpad \u201crepresents the future of fully custom superyacht design.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zuckerberg, who is currently seventh on Forbes\u2019 World\u2019s Real-Time\u00a0Billionaires list, is also the subject of an upcoming film that was shot in Vancouver.<\/p>\n

Eagle-eyed fans spotted the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University in the official teaser trailer for The Social Reckoning<\/a>, which was released last month.<\/p>\n

SFU\u2019s Academic Quadrangle, seen in numerous TV shows and movies filmed in the region throughout the years, is standing in for an office setting in the Aaron Sorkin film.<\/p>\n

The building, which was constructed in the 1960s, can be seen right as the viewer gets a good look at Mark Zuckerberg, portrayed by Jeremy Strong.<\/p>\n

The World, which bills itself as the world\u2019s largest private residential yacht<\/a>, was also recently docked at Ogden Point in Victoria.<\/p>\n

The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) posted on social media that the massive cruise ship operates as a floating apartment complex.<\/p>\n

The World launched in 2002 and has 165 custom-designed homes onboard, ranging in size from studios to multi-bedroom apartments.<\/p>\n
