As gravel racing is reaching just wild levels of competitiveness, with pros packing onto start lines from all disciplines, Pirelli is stepping up its Cinturato gravel range to keep pace. Two new tires, the RM and RH, strip down to give racers pure speed focused versions of its existing treads.<\/p>\n

Cinturato Gravel RM and RH<\/p>\n

For both new tires, the \u201cR\u201d stands for Race. That makes sense, as these are race-focused version of its Performance line tires. M is for Mixed, an all-rounder for varied courses while H is ofr Hard, when the course is best defined by speed with only occasional rougher stretches.<\/p>\n

Both new tires are made at Pirelli\u2019s Milan-Bollate facility using FSCT-certified natural rubber. Both come in a wide range of widths from 40c to massive 700x55c (Roughly equivalent to 29\u00d72.2\u2033) so you can dial in your equipment for any course. As for looks, both come in black, classic tan and a lighter sidewall \u201cretro\u201d finish as well as a new Team Edition with the iconic Pirelli yellow stripes and labels, so you can look as fast as you feel. Both tires use Pirelli\u2019s latest SmartEVO GR rubber compound, mixing low rolling resistance with grip in wet and dry conditions.<\/p>\n

Pirelli Cinturato Gravel RH<\/p>\n

The Cinturato Gravel RH is for hard-packed and fast-rolling surfaces. Efficiency is king, with a slick centre strip aided by pronounced shoulder knobs for when you do need to corner off road. 120 TPI ProWall Gravel casing keeps the RH supple and efficient while adding grip. Pirelli claims it has 17 per cent less rolling resistance compared to the H tire in its own Performance range.<\/p>\n

Pirelli Cinturato Gravel RM<\/p>\n

The Cinturato Gravel RM is for races that throw everything at racers, from fast to rough trails. It still rolls fast, but with better breaking and more consistent cornering control, this tire has your back when you don\u2019t know what you\u2019ll encounter around the next corner. The RM uses the same 120 TPI ProWall Gravel casing. Pirelli claims a 20 per cent reduction in rolling resistance compared ot the Cinturato Gravel M from its Performance line.<\/p>\n

As with the new Vittoria tires, it is interesting to see more brands offering a mix of very fast, gravel-specific treads and casings with very high-volume tires. More racers are choosing big tires even for smoother courses. And the high TPI count will make a huge difference in how these tires feel compared to borrowing tougher XC tires.
