BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School girls tennis team lost 4-1 to visiting Ottawa Hills on Saturday, August 16.<\/p>\n
The defeat dropped the Bluffton record to 1-3 this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe didn’t go down without a fight,\u201d said Bluffton head coach Trisha Nieman. \u201cThe score alone doesn’t show just how many battles went to deuce and advantage. Our girls showed resilience and determination on every court. The competitiveness was very present in today’s match.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Bluffton second doubles duo of sophomores Leah Hoffman and Peighton Bowers posted the lone Pirate win with a 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 comeback effort. The duo improved their season record to 3-1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cEach time they step on the court, their communication, movement and strokes keep improving,\u201d said Nieman. \u201cSuch impressive effort from these two. A highlight of the morning.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Junior Kate Klinger lost 6-0, 6-0 at first singles.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Junior Ari Bowling also fell at second singles 6-0, 6-0. Junior Willow Angle was defeated 6-2, 6-0 at third singles.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bluffton\u2019s senior first doubles duo of Claire Blackburn and Maizie Digby lost 6-0, 6-1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are proud of the fight from the whole team, and are excited to keep building,\u201d the enthusiastic Nieman noted.<\/p>\n
The next Pirate match is Monday at Lima Senior on the Collett Street Courts.\u00a0<\/p>\n
