{"id":763587,"date":"2026-06-27T00:30:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T00:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/763587\/"},"modified":"2026-06-27T00:30:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T00:30:17","slug":"boston-red-sox-place-marcelo-mayer-on-il-with-forearm-injury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/763587\/","title":{"rendered":"Boston Red Sox place Marcelo Mayer on IL with forearm injury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">BOSTON (AP) \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/boston-red-sox\/226\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/boston-red-sox\/226\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Red Sox<\/a> placed infielder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/marcelo-mayer\/1310130\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/marcelo-mayer\/1310130\" target=\"_blank\">Marcelo Mayer<\/a> on the 10-day injured list because of a left forearm injury Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">To take his place, the club recalled infielder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/tsung-che-cheng\/1316397\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/tsung-che-cheng\/1316397\" target=\"_blank\">Tsung-Che Cheng<\/a> from Triple-A Worcester before their game against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/new-york-yankees\/234\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/new-york-yankees\/234\" target=\"_blank\">New York Yankees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Interim manager Chad Tracy said the 23-year-old Mayer has been dealing soreness for a while.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe recommendation of the doctors was if this is something that if you can get off and rest, that would be the best thing to do right now,\u201d Tracy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The team said it was a \u201cbone stress reaction to the left ulna.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Mayer, the fourth overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft, has struggled this season, batting just .220 with three homers and 22 RBIs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Cheng is making his Red Sox debut, starting at shortstop and batting ninth.
